Popularization of 5G technology

     1. Introduction

5G technology has been one of the hottest topics in the past two years. It is considered to be an important development direction for future communications. Like everything else, technology is not totally perfect in any way. It can improve the quality of life and increase workforce efficiency. Still, at the same time, we have to realize that it can be very costly and there could be other negative outcomes that not only hurt users but our environment. Overall, I feel the urge to explore this controversial topic of 5G technology.

     2. Advantages of 5G technology

First of all, 5G technology without a doubt brings in a better network experience.5G technology is faster, more stable, and more reliable than 4G technology, and 5Ghas lower latency as well. Having a low latency provides smoother communicationwhen there are high volumes of data being transferred. This will allow people todownload and upload files faster and also will make video calls and audio calls betterin resolution and more stable. The results of the introduction of 5G technology to thepublic include but are not limited to services like; virtual reality, augmented reality, autonomous driving, and the Internet of Things. Especially in the future, smartdevices, IoT applications, and 5G technology will be an important foundation for amore efficient, convenient, and comfortable lifestyle. The results of many industrialand economic booms are due to certain introductions of technology. Secondly, since5G technology uses higher frequency bands, it can better penetrate buildings andother obstacles. This will help to solve the problem of insufficient coverage of 4Gnetworks in scenarios such as high-rise buildings in cities. Additionally, 5Gtechnology offers better network quality than 4G. Since 5G technology uses higherfrequency bands, it can provide greater bandwidth and better signal quality.Meanwhile, 5G technology can support more devices than 4G without slowing downsystems. It happens all the time in schools, offices, homes, and in the public. Youwonder why at restaurants or out in the public internet connection gets really bad, well that is because there are way too many people using the same server at thesame time. In future IoT applications, billions of devices will need to be connected tothe Internet. 5G technology will support more devices to connect to the Internet atthe same time, thus improving the reliability and stability of IoT applications. Also, 5Gtechnology will lead to more openings of career opportunities. Billions of new jobopportunities were created crossing all industries. When we think about it, what arethe few jobs that do not rely on tech assistance? With the expansion of the careerfields and the mass-generated money from these new jobs, in the end, driveseconomic development.

As I mentioned, with the popularization of 5G technology, many new industries, andservices will emerge. These services may not be limited to smart homes, smart cars, telemedicine, and virtual reality. Last but not least, 5G technology can be used notonly for communication, entertainment, and business but can also be used fornational defense and national security. 5G technology will bring stronger and safercommunication capabilities and provide better protection for national security andnational defense.

     3. Disadvantages of 5G technology

On the other hand, the cost of 5G technology equipment is not so pretty. Because5G technology requires a higher level of hardware support compared to 4G, theamount spent on the upgrades can get costly. This will lead to 5G technology maynot spread as quickly as 4G technology because the general user may not be able toafford the expensive expense. Also, network coverage from a different point isanother limitation. 5G technology requires more base stations to achieve widernetwork coverage which means in the short term, the coverage of 5G networks maybe limited, especially in remote and sparsely populated areas. In compacted urbancities like New York City, it is easier to reach its users. But then when we move outinto the rural areas that don’t tend to have people live so close by, there are someproblems. Then we have network security, which faces greater challenges as well.5G technology will bring more data traffic and the number of connected devices willincrease. This will increase the risk of security issues such as data breaches andcyber-attacks which may threaten people's privacy and property security. Meanwhile, the higher frequency bands used by 5G technology may also have negative impactson the environment and health. 5G technology requires more base stations toachieve wider network coverage. These base stations require a lot of energy andspace to operate. This is likely to cause environmental pollution, such as energyleakage and deforestation. In addition, although there is not yet enough evidence toprove that 5G technology has a negative impact on human health, it is still an issueof concern.

     4. Feasibility of 5G technology popularization

I think 5G technology needs to be popularized, and although there are somenegative impacts of 5G technology, there are measures we can take to mitigatethese impacts. In order to achieve the popularization of 5G technology, moreinfrastructure needs to be built, including base stations, optical fiber networks, anddata centers. This requires the joint efforts of the government, enterprises, investors, and the joint investment of funds and resources. With the popularization of 5Gtechnology, the issue of network security becomes more important. Therefore, weneed to strengthen network security measures to ensure the security and stability ofthe network. Governments, enterprises, and users all need to be aware of theimportance of network security and take appropriate measures to protect networksecurity. Also, in order to promote 5G technology, we need to strengthen educationand publicity to the public. All parties including the government, businesses, andmedia should work together to provide the public with accurate and comprehensiveinformation to help the public understand the advantages and disadvantages of 5G

technology, and how to use 5G technology to improve productivity and improve ourstandards of living. Then, in order to ensure the healthy development of 5Gtechnology, relevant policies, and regulations need to be formulated. Thegovernment can introduce relevant policies to encourage enterprises to invest in 5Gtechnology and strengthen the management and supervision of 5G technology. Atthe same time, the government should formulate relevant regulations for thepopularization of 5G technology to protect the rights and interests of the public.

     5. Conclusion

As an emerging communication technology, 5G technology has many advantagesand potential. Although it also has some shortcomings and negative effects, weshould actively promote 5G technology to achieve better network experience, morebusiness opportunities, better national security and national defense, and othergoals. Looking to the future or even now, there are no less than billions of peoplewho have access to and use technology for all different purposes. At the same time,we also need to take corresponding measures to alleviate the negative impact of 5Gtechnology and ensure the healthy development of 5G technology.
